At Ovzon, our space and satellite networks are the key components of both our technical solution and customer satisfaction.  The Satellite Systems Engineer will play a critical role in the design, development, delivery, and lifecycle of these networks.  Ovzon is committed to providing industry leading performance, security, and resiliency in our Satellite-as-a-Service offerings.

Objectives of this Role

  • Provide technical and engineering support to Ovzon’s global satellite and terrestrial networks
  • Provide effective development, configuration, testing, staging, deployment and modernization of the Ovzon Global network
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support and participate in customer engagements and other selling activities

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Evaluate network and space segment performance for efficiency and security
  • Evaluate specific satellite router configurations and network performance, in real time, and recommend opportunities for optimization
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve systems issues
  • Evaluate and enhance space and terrestrial disaster recovery and COOP plans
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts
  • Provide support to user training, customer engagement and other selling activities
  • Perform complex problem analysis and resolution for systems and applications
  • Provide technical review and assessment of technologies, concepts and systems
  • Advise on issues of feasibility and applicability of relevant new RF and Communications technologies to satellite architectures and spacecraft concepts
  • Analyze alternatives to optimize performance and improve understanding of systems architecture and components
  • Prepare deliverables that include RF analysis, link budgets, technical assessments, presentations, written reports and recommendations
  • Provide technical support to acquisition, source selection and programmatic processes, including developing acquisition support documents and gap analyses
  • Develop documents and briefings to communicate work or study status, brief government and industry as required

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Experience and qualifications working with satellite and terrestrial networks in both a production and development environment
  • Detailed understanding of RF theory and satellite communications systems
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and written/verbal communications skills
  • Expertise in the principles, methods, and techniques used in network troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Expertise in current computing platforms, networks, operating systems, applications, security methods and network management tools.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented 24/7 environment
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Department of Defense (DoD) Secret level security clearance.

Preferred Qualification

  • UHP network operations
  • GVF VSAT operations certifications
  • CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certification
  • Cisco Certifications (CCNA)
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Experience with Linux/Unix
  • Experience with Cloud environment
  • Experience with virtualization
  • Previous experience in our supporting the US DoD and intel community
  • Experience designing and developing satellite communication terminals
  • Experience designing and developing satellite modems
  • Experience performing modeling & simulation of communication architectures
  • Familiarity and experience with NIST SP 800-37 and the Risk Management Framework
